Fireplace Upgrade Training

Fireplace Class is part of the bricklayer apprenticeship training program but the classes are open to journeylevel bricklayer members. In 2017 classes will be offered on January 30th - February 2nd and June 19th - June 22nd. The class consists of four 10-hour days.

This 40-hour course is designed to provide the BAC craftworker with training in the following areas:

  • Building codes that apply to fireplace construction
  • Layout and design of fireplaces
  • Building a firebox with firebrick and refractory mortar
  • Building a smoke chamber
  • Designing and building a fireplace face
  • Understanding the advantages and disadvantages of a Rumford vs. a conventional fireplace
  • Safety considerations when building fireplaces and chimneys
