New Evening Safety Refresher Class
The DCTC is offering as special Safety Refresher Class which will be held over two evenings.  This Safety Refresher class is for members that have previously taken Scaffold User and OSHA 10 or 30 classes. Class requires attedance both nights to receive credit.

NEW SAFETY TRAINING REGULATIONS

The following changes have been made to the Illinois Administrative District Council Safety Training Policy:

OSHA classes will expire 4 years after completion date

Refresher classes are now scheduled; these classes will consist of OSHA, Scaffold, Fall Protection and Silica Awareness refresher class all in one 8 hour day. The classes will cover both OSHA 10 and OSHA 30. If a member has a current scaffold card that is expiring soon this refresher will update all 4 classes. These cards are for all of the trowel trade represented by the ADC.

Members MUST have previously attended a minimum of OSHA 10 and Scaffold User

Grout Certification / Flashing Upgrade

Grout: The course covers various grouting consolidation techniques, code requirements, inspection procedures, quality control, safety and ASTM standards. Craftworkers get a solid understanding of grout, reinforced masonry and proper installation.

Flashing: Dicuss building code requirements, the responsibility of the installer, availability and advantages of the systems and materials, specific functions of flashings, weep vents, drainage planes, air spaces and masonry units as related to the wall performance.

This class covers the basics of adhered veneer (Cultured Stone) including installation of building paper, wire lathe, scratch coat and manufactured stone. Seating is limited. 8 hour class

Ceramic Tile Journeyman Upgrade Classes

New Journeyman upgrade classes are being offered this fall for Ceramic Tile Setters. Each class will be 3 Saturdays, 8 hours each and require attendance all 3 days to receive certification.

SAFETY TRAINING

Work is slow, but now is the time for BAC members to update their Safety Training classes. Our Safety Training schedule is in the "Events Calendar" tab on our website. Please call our office to reserve a seat in the many classes scheduled in the upcoming months. NOTE: OSHA 30 Hour Saturday classes are now 4 consecutive Saturdays (New OSHA Regulations)

BAC Craft Awards

February 2010

The 2008 BAC Craft Awards were presented in February 2010 at the BAC Winter Cluster meetings. Three of the winners are associated with the District Council Training Center.

 

Art Johnston won the John B. Scola Outstanding Instructor Award. Art has been an Instructor and a Mentor to Plaster apprentices for many years.

J & E Duff, Mason Contractors, Code of Conduct Award; Dick Lauber of J & E Duff is currently a Trustee on the District Council Training Center's board. Dick was instrumental in the creation of the DCTC Fund back in 1998.

Trostrud Mosaic and Tile Co., Inc. won the best Tile Project. Brad Trostrud is currently a Trustee on the District Council Training Center's board
